Hook & Paddle

Hook and Paddle is hands down one of the nicest places we have stayed at Smith Mountain Lake, and that is saying something since this was our 5th summer coming here. The view is unbeatable—completely unobstructed and perfect for both sunrise and sunset. The property is beautiful on a flat lot, with a private beach, a great dock setup, a cabana bar, and a fridge on the water. Inside, the house was spotless and very comfortable. We like it that it is NOT pet-friendly as two of us have allergies. The kitchen is stocked better than any vacation rental we have ever stayed in—every pot, pan, utensil, and gadget you could want is right there. The main bedroom King suite has a fantastic view and a big, spa-like bathroom. We also loved the sunroom off the kitchen for morning coffee and the peaceful waterfall and koi pond just outside. The dock is in deep water and has plenty of space for boats and the provided water toys, so it is easy to spend all day by the water. Between the location, the quality of the home, and how well it is maintained, Hook and Paddle will be our go-to spot every summer. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!

I’m grateful to have been among the first guests to stay in this beautiful home. I’ll admit, I was a bit hesitant to book since there were no reviews yet—but we took the plunge, and I’m so glad we did. My wife and I, and our two teenage sons and my parents (late 70's), came to Smith Mountain Lake after the school year ended. We’ve been coming to SML every summer for the past eight years, and this was, hands down, our favorite home so far. The view is simply exceptional. We spent evenings around the outdoor fire pit, listening to the peaceful sound of the waterfall in the background—it was magical. My sons loved fishing from the beach area and used the provided kayaks every day. The house is incredibly well-stocked for a brand-new rental—there honestly wasn’t a single thing we needed that wasn’t already provided. The boathouse even has a small fridge, which made it easy to keep snacks and drinks handy. I ended up spending most of my time down on the dock—it’s that relaxing. There’s also a shaded area, which my parents especially appreciated. We’ve already saved dates for next year, and my wife and I are seriously considering a long weekend in the fall—it would be beautiful here then too.
