Maine Stay

I have stayed at Maine Stay once before and returned this season. The updates, especially the new fire pit and remodeled bathroom, are well done, making the stay even better than last time. The location in a quiet cove is perfect for swimming and water sports, and I enjoyed using the canoe. The open living space, large windows, and well-stocked kitchen made it easy to feel at home. There are a couple of things that could be improved. The owners’ personal boat makes the main driveway tight and difficult to back out of, which is inconvenient. It should be moved during the renter's stay. There also seems to be a moisture issue downstairs that would benefit from professional attention. They have lots of moisture traps so it is an ongoing issue and sometimes smells musty. Overall, this home is a good value for the money and a beautiful setting. With a few fixes, it could easily be a five-star experience.

SML is a beautiful lake and the water was wonderful. The house was great for the 6 of us and we played pool almost every evening in the wonderful ground floor. The only issue we had was a noisy neighbor two houses down the cove that would play loud music down at the dock everyday, all day long. At least they tuned to a good music radio station.

We loved this home! My husband and three boys spent a long weekend at SM Lake, and from the moment we arrived, the house felt warm and inviting. It was spotless, and we immediately felt at home. The kids took over the game area downstairs, which was what made us choose the place. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything needed to cook meals—pots, pans, serving dishes, and even spices left for our use. We all gathered around the big TV to watch the game and enjoy some chili we made in the crockpot. Everyone loved the pool table, especially my husband, who won every game I played with him :( The boys stayed in the bunkroom, perfect for their age—young, teen-friendly, and with plenty of space to spread out. Even Tank, our corgi, felt right at home and had his own bed in there with them. While the lake is obviously amazing in the summer, the off-season charm was a whole different experience. The pace was slower, and we really appreciated the more relaxed vibe. It felt like the perfect getaway to unwind and recharge. Our long weekend was just too short, so we’ve already booked a stay here for the summer and can’t wait to return! Thank you for sharing your home.
