Surfside

Our family of two 50-year-olds and three teenagers had a great time at Surfside! When at the house, we mostly spent our time on the screened porch and well-appointed dock. Our kids loved watching movies on the dock TV, playing games on the dock bar, jumping into the lake from the upper dock, and taking advantage of the kayaks and other water toys. The adults liked the dock fridge, bird songs, and friendly neighbor dogs and deer! Despite water levels 4-5 ft below normal, we were still able to rent a boat for tubing and water-skiing and dock it overnight here. The house was furnished nicely, very clean, and had everything we needed (though there were a few kitchen pans or tools we would have liked). We were happy to have a second full bathroom and laundry, but it should be noted that they can only be accessed from outside through the basement door. Overall, we had a wonderful family vacation!

House was perfect for what we needed. The extra water sport amenities offered was amazing. The dock was awesome even with the low water conditions we had no issue accessing the boat. Can’t wait to come back.

I am almost hesitant to leave such a great review because I want this place to be available for us for years to come! It’s too good not to share… the house is clean, modern, nicely decorated. The dock and amenities down there are the best we’ve had in all our years at SML. We enjoyed using the water toys provided. The water is deep, close to a community boat launch, and a really nice yard. Also, the property management company was excellent. So easy to get ahold of and checked in when necessary. Def recommend and we will be back!

I had been searching for the perfect getaway for my sweetie's birthday, and this house turned out to be the ideal spot. We're only about 2.5 hours from Smith Mountain Lake, so it was a great, easy destination for us. When we arrived, the house felt so cozy and welcoming. It was a nice surprise to have trash service, as we had seen in a previous review that there wasn't any. Almost all of the living space is on one floor, with a second bathroom on the lower level that's accessible from the outside—though we didn’t end up needing it. The bed was so comfortable that we had a hard time getting up! The kitchen was well equipped, especially considering the size. The house is close to a local vineyard, so we visited the tasting room and even brought a bottle back. Plus, it's near plenty of restaurants and shopping. We had an amazing dinner at Napoli Cowboy, a small spot locals recommended, and it did not disappoint! Overall, this place was a perfect, cozy, and convenient retreat. While it was too chilly to use the dock, it’s large, and the view is stunning. We also got to enjoy plenty of wildlife, including geese, deer, and wild turkeys. Highly recommend it!

Surfside is a small lake home with good water access. The dock storage unit was well-equipped with everything we needed, like a refrigerator and a big TV. The kitchen was on the smaller side. It was very clean and functional. The beds were incredibly comfortable. If I owned the home, I would add more amenities for guests. Game table, kayaks and such. We found the second bathroom in the basement a bit unexpected; we didn’t realize it was there until we went to do laundry, which was also located on the ground level. The location was convenient, close to a public boat launch and a grocery store. Overall, it was a nice place to stay on the lake. Just a note: you’ll need to transport your trash to a facility about four miles away. It would be great if the owners could arrange trash service, as we noticed cans at other homes. The rental company was fantastic and helped us find this home last minute after arriving at a different property we wouldn’t stay in. This home may be small, but it was exceptionally clean, and we would definitely consider returning!
