Cairns Home

The Cairns Home is a wonderful retreat. Very comfortably furnished house with plenty of room to give everyone space. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to make meals. The easy slope to the dock and water is one of the best things about this rental. We love the shaded sitting area, and beach area so that we can walk into the water. The docking is great for our boat as well. I can’t recommend this house enough!

Outdoor space and location was outstanding despite some light construction from a nearby neighbor. Home was relatively clean with some light updates (e.g. kitchen area). Furnishings are quite dated but consistent with photos. Overall, a pleasant stay.

The property is great. Comfortable beds, great deck, great beach. The reason for the poor rating, (and I have never left a poor rating before) is due to the rental management company. Smith Mountain Lake Vacation Rentals LLC is the absolute worst vacation rental company that I have ever dealt with. Should the owner switch to a higher quality company to run their rental, I would change my rating. During our trip, the company sent a message to look at the refrigerator on how to take care of our garbage. Taped to the refrigerator was a note about dropping off the garbage at the dump 3 miles away. The problem is, we are leaving at 5:30 am for our 14 hour drive home and the dump (which I am guessing one has to pay to use) does not open til 7:00am. The note had a threatening message that there was a fine applied if we did not take the garbage with us. I messaged the company on what to do and never heard back from them until we were half way home. They made up excuses and acted pathetic in their response. A second reason that the company is terrible is they give far less supplies than every other company. No extra garbage bags to use anyway. Seems like a little thing but who travels with extra garbage bags for a 4 day trip. Also no soap, very little TP etc. Never had to run to the store for a four day trip. It would be so easy and cheap for them to be like every other company and make people happy with just a basic starter of supplies. First time having a bad experience.

It's all about Lake Time! SML is the best and the Cairns Home provides the ultimate access! Comfortable home with incredible porch and lake views. Easy access to the water and a walk in beach area. Wonderful lake side patio with picnic table and chairs. Great boat dock. Close to everything. Location, location, location... Almost 20 years coming here for vacation. SML vacation Rentals does it right. Great people and easy to work with. See you in 2026!

This is a wonderful home. We love the comfy space. The house is furnished with everything you need. The walk to the dock is an easy walk, and the sitting area is awesome. We especially like the little beach area that allows little ones to play, and older ones too! Great place to relax!
